Platform Search Indexing feature

How many are still having issue with Platform search feature.

 

In my case, we are on BOE 4.1 SP6 and Platform search feature stops working eventually. All of a sudden Number of indexed objects shows as "zero".

 

I tried both Schedule and Crawling in both cases Platform search feature eventually stops and shows number of indexed documents ad "zero"

 

Every time I open a case with SAP, the answer I hear from them is to rebuild indexing or redeploy Platform search feature.

 

I feel this feature is not stable yet in 4.1 and I want to hear what others experiences are with this feature.

 

In my landscape, platform search feature is configured correctly and works fine but keeps crashing.

Windows AD authentication and SSO

Hi ,

I referenced a great post listed below for windows AD and SSO with Business objects 4.0

Active Directory SSO for SAP BusinessObjects BI4

i have completed this till step 8 , where i can see the authentication tab visible on BI launch pad but i am unable to log in as a AD user.

although the ticket at the end of step 7 has been successfully created but what i am not sure about is if i need to run the cmd prompt as a AD service account user or the admin user that i logged into the business objects vm server as?

Please let me know if that is irrelevant and if there is anything else that needs to be tested. I have followed all the other steps and have the service account AD user as part of the Admin group on the server and also act as part of operating system in the local security policy.

Promotion Management; Security right violation encountered

Dear Experts, need your guidance on my issue.

 

We have set our developers to do their promotions from DEV to QA. But while they promote the universes(.unx) from DEV to QA, they encounter an error 'Resolution Status=Overwritten, Dependency Status=Some of the required dependencies are not selected., Commit Status=Commit attempted and failed., Promotion Status=Failure : Security right violation encountered'

 

But they are able to promote the reports fine. I verfied that the user promoting the job has View, Edit, Delete and Add Objects to Folder rights granted.

 

Please advise which other rights might be missing.

BusinessObjects.DSWS.BIPlatform UNX universes

Hi,

 

I've been successfully using the Axis WebServices for .Net to manage things like who gets access to a Universe (ie setting access, not just viewing access)

 

This is fine for UNV universes, but in testing a UNX universe cannot be cast into BusinessObjects.DSWS.BIPlatform.Desktop.Universe

 

There doesn't seem to be an appropriate object to cast a DSL.MetaDataFile into - can someone please give me a pointer ?

 

Example code:

Why does the date modified time keeps updating consistently for the servers in CMC?

Hi,

 

In our BI landscape (BI 4.0) there are couple of servers which keep getting updated in their date modified time. These are mostly the processing servers. The Intelligence Tier servers show their date modified time as per their last service restart. (This must be the general behavior)

 

I am sure its an issue in our landscape and not with the product in general. The same behaviour is not seen in any other landscape. Any clues on this absurd behaviour to occur?

Not getting data in Multi Provider for WBS element and Project def ?

I have created Multiprovider based on two dsos(overall budget,annual) , WBS element and Project definition , after that i have displayed data not getting data for WBS and Project def Why ?

 

Please any body knows this is issue.

SBOP XI 3.1 sp7 system copy

I have som issues in system copying SBOP

 

I installed SBOP server and integration kit SP3 on a test server, then upgraded it to SP5 and then to SP7 patch 2, all this I did to get the MySQL installed like production. Alle Works fin, I can logon to CMC now.

 

Now test is similar to production.

 

I system copied from production to test via SIA. Close SIA -> Configuration -> Copy data from another data source. -> selected the production DB. Afterwards I can se lines in DB concerning production data, I also copied FileStore.

 

Do I have to change clustername after the copy?

 

After starting SIA again I can't log on to CMC?

 

I still see production names in the DB, how do I convert them?

 

What am I missing?

Search option not working properly from Launchpad 4.1!

Hi Gurus,

 

We recently upgraded to BI 4.1 from 3.1 system. When users are searching for some reports in launchpad they are not able to find some reports. I've tried the same thing as an admin and I've faced the same issue from launchpad but when I login as Administrator into CMC and look for the report, it works! Our platform search engine is set to 'Continuous crawling'.

 

It's only happening with few reports. Please help me with this issue! Thanks.!

Server Intelligence Agent is forcing server AdaptiveJobServer to terminate.

Hi Gurus,

 

We recently upgraded to BI 4.1. We have scheduled windows batch jobs to stop and start SIA every night. I have used Task scheduler to kick off these batch jobs.

 

I've been noticing that the SIA is hanging at 'Stopping' state on some days when I get to work in the morning.Today, I've noticed that it did not stop completely and I saw the warning message in the event viewer. So, I had to manually restart the SIA. We have a cluster setup and luckily the other server was taking all the requests and running the jobs but I'm worried if this happens on both the servers...

Server Intelligence Agent is forcing server xxxxxxx.AdaptiveJobServer to terminate.

 

Also, I had checked in CMC and no jobs are running at that time but when I see in the task manager on the server, I can see 5 JobServerChild.exe processes running though...

 

Please help with this issue.

Migrate BO content from BO3.1 to BO4.1 using UMT

Can you confirm my below approach towards migration from BO 3.1 to 4.1?

 

 

While using Upgrade Management tool for Incremental Upgrade:

1) Migrate all the users, groups and security levels (Custom access levels) in the initial phase of the migration.

2) Migrate Folders(few folders only) in the next phase

3) Re apply the security on each folder in CMC 4.1.

 

Questions

 

 

1) Everyone Group has to be migrated from BO 3.1 or not?

2) Administrators Group has to be migrated from BO 3.1 or not?

3) Administrator User has to be migrated from BO 3.1 or not?

4) Shall I have to select: Applications CMC, (ii) Designer, (iii) Infoview (iv) Webi etc.?

What options to select:

Export selected objects and their dependencies

    (ii) Export selected objects

    (iii) Export objects only if they are depended on

 

 

5) While migrating Groups, which option to select:

Export this group, its subgroups, their users and their users dependencies.

(ii) Export this group, its subgroups and their users

iii) Export this group, its subgroups and their users only if they are depended on

 

 

6) While migrating Folders, which option to select:

Export selected objects and their dependencies

(ii) Export selected objects

(iii) Export objects only if they are depended on

We are working on monitoring setup for SAP BusinessObjects windows server. I am looking for all Event ids which is BusinssObjects generate in Windows event log so that we can capture all warnings and error using that Event ids.

 

Is there any PDF or document available for this?

Analysis application inaccessible

Hi All,

 

We recently updated out BI platform server 4.1 to SP6.  I am facing a particularly unusual error when I open any Analysis Application.

I can see ReferenceError: EPCM is not defined in the browser. The response code is 302 but the new tab fails to load instantly.

 

The following requests seem to be failing:

SAP BOBJ problem while export/saving WEBI

Dear Team,

 

We are on SAP  BOBJ 4.1 SP 4 Patch 4.

 

We are getting frequent error (when i say frequent... user tries to export one webi report o/p  and after 5-6 attempts he gets successful.

We followed the link below but none helped. Please help find what parameter governs this error.

P.S. We have looked at bunch of sap notes but all are pointing to patch or new releases however we cap it. We are at 4.1 SP4 Patch 4

folders accordion menu in BI Launchpad

Hello Everyone,

 

Does the accordion menu in BI Launchpad mean the folder hirarchy that we can see after logging in to launchpad?

If it is not visible for some of the users , is it because of the BI LAUNCHPAD PREFERNECES set foor those users from CMC ?

Or there can be any oher reason.. I am facing this issue in case of a BI 4.1 environment which was upgraded from BI 4.0

Alert Summary page -> Authentication alerts

 

    • authentication.sap.property.DefaultSystem
      Is it really an issue if you don't have any default SAP system set?
      Which one should be set here, if you have a lot of them connected?
      We never did this and don't see any issues caused by this.
    • authentication.sap.property.SSO2DBKeyPasswordBlank
      The password is set in the CMC, STS is working fine. I don't understand why we get this alert
    • authentication.sap.property.UpdateUsers
      Update Roles and Aliases is scheduled and ran successfully.
      I don't understand why we get this.

I could reproduce these authentication alerts in a report created for another system, too.

As far as I know enabling compression is controversial, at least for HTTPS. Please see CRIME for details.

Is it recommended by SAP to enable compression also for HTTPS, despite the risks?


Otherwise the corresponding check should be adapted to reflect this.

BI Platform Support Tool Issue: Semantic Layer > Orphaned Reports : many reports show null 'report path'

Semantic Layer -> Orphaned Reports

 

For a lot of Reports we get "null" in column "Report Path", which makes it quite hard to find them easily (smile)
Do you have any Idea where this is coming from?

Service Account for CMS Audit and CMS database

Hi,

I have cluster environment with 2 nodes. My CMS and CMS_audit database exist under the same SQL server instance e.g. DEV_Instance. I created two ODBC conenctions one for CMS and Audit and we are using windows NT authenticatiom rather than a dedicated SQL server account.

After the install i was able to see the CMs and the Audit tables created in the SQL server instance.

 

now i am running the CMS as a service account rather than local and i make the change in the SIA properties to run using the service account rather than local. I am planning to enable auditing and what confused me is that client provided me different service account and password for auditing than CMS. If understand correctly i am already using the CMS service account in SIA and it should be logging information in the CMS tables in the database (CMs) .

now i see a username and password option in the auditing section of the CMC,i have a seperate service account for audting which is different than CMS, should i enter a seperate service account or it should be the same account that is used for CMS?

 

how to test properly that auditing is enabled correctly and right service account is used/
