Business Objects 4.1 and FileMaker Pro DB

Hi Everyone

We're on BO 4.1 SP1. We have a universe built on the Information Design Tool that connects to MS SQL Server 2008 Database. There are 2 daily batch jobs that transfer the data from the source FILEMAKER database  to the MS-SQL database, and this process takes about 6 hours to complete.

Due to the time taken for these jobs to complete the loads, we are now thinking of alternate options to make the data available for reporting purposes.

One of the proposed options is to connect the universe directly to the FileMaker using the ODBC32Bit Driver. This would mean that we have to implement all the functionalities of the Views and SSIS Packages that were earlier available on the SQL Server. This is going to be an overload on the IDT, but we are testing the functionality at the moment.

To start with, I created a new relational connection on the IDT, and created a new data foundation layer and imported 4 tables. When I try to create a join between 2 tables, using a simple equijoin, and setting the right cardinality, I get an error:

Join:  supplier.supplier=supplier_chain.supplier

Invalid expression.

[FileMaker][FileMaker] FQL0001/(7:13): There is an error in the syntax of the query.

I tried using quotes on the table names, like: "supplier".supplier="supplier_chain".supplier as suggested in a few forums, but it still gave the error. When I try to test the connection through the IDT, it is successful. I tested the connection also by importing a table into an excel file, and it worked fine.

I created a TEST DIMENSION using the supplier.supplier column, and set it to datatype "String". I parsed the object and it parsed without any errors. So the problem now is to define the joins between these tables.

I tested the same design using the Universe Designer, and encounter the same error with Joins, where as the object definitions work well and don't seem to throw any error.

I created a test report using Crystal Reports and imported the 4 tables. I generated a simple query, but got the same error as mentioned above. But If I use just one table in the Crystal report, it works fine, and displays all the data in that one table.

Could someone provide any suggestions as to what might be the problem here? There is not much information on File Maker and Business Objects queries.

Regards

Dhivya
