Business Objects Enterprise

I apologize if this is not posted in the proper 'space' or whatever but I have spent enough time trying to figure that out and I really need to figure out the best solution for my question.

We have an old server running Business Objects XI (from about 2005ish).  A few years ago I set up a new virtual server running SAP Business Objects Enterprise 14.0 (2011 I think).  For reason's I will not go into the group that uses the server to schedule and distribute reports from an old business system decided they did not want to migrate to the new server at that time.

Now that the hardware on the original server is failing they want to migrate.  I have been trying (and failing) to migrate all of their objects, folders, users, etc. to the 2011 installation using the Upgrade Management Tool.  If I do the live to live it will sit and run for a long time and then usually either time out or error out depending on what I select to upgrade.  I was able to run a live to briar upgrade that seemed to complete but I am unsure how to then 'import' that file into the live system.

I apologize for my lack of knowledge but this is just a single server install and like I said, I installed it 6 or 8 years ago and turned it over to them and have not really touched it since.

Basically I need to know....

Can the old version XI system be 'upgraded or migrated' to the version 14 system I have in place?

If so, what steps do I need to follow to do so?

Do I need to wait until after I have done the 'upgrade or migration' before I install 2013 version?

If anyone could get me pointed in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!
